Warning of a growing global trust deficit, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi addressed the United Nations General Assembly, calling for renewed diplomatic efforts to address international conflicts and strengthen cooperation. Tileuberdi highlighted concerns over the ongoing war in Ukraine, urging nations to prioritize diplomacy and negotiations for conflict resolution.
Tileuberdi condemned recent drone attacks on Kazakh oil export infrastructure and commercial vessels in the Black Sea, cautioning that such incidents could disrupt navigation, international trade, and global energy supplies. These developments underscore the need for a collaborative approach to geopolitical issues.
In his speech, Tileuberdi also reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s support for a two-state solution in the Middle East, advocating for an independent Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel. He expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to support Gaza’s stabilization through civilian reconstruction and digital government services, and announced the country’s intention to join the Abraham Accords.
Addressing the situation in Afghanistan, Tileuberdi emphasized its stability as crucial to Central Asia’s security and development. He called for coordinated international efforts through the UN to provide humanitarian assistance alongside long-term strategies to combat poverty and economic dependence.
Kazakhstan renewed its appeal for nuclear disarmament, offering to host high-level discussions among nuclear-armed states. Tileuberdi pointed to Kazakhstan’s historical decisions to close the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site and relinquish its inherited nuclear arsenal as examples of commitment to disarmament. He urged nuclear powers to continue pursuing disarmament despite existing disagreements, stressing the importance of respecting international law and fulfilling commitments to restore global trust.
During the General Assembly, Tileuberdi engaged in discussions with UN officials and foreign ministers on various topics, including UN reform, regional connectivity, and sustainable development in Central Asia and Afghanistan. These talks also covered the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, highlighting Kazakhstan’s strategic focus on enhancing regional cooperation.
