China has called on Israel to cease the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank and to improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza, according to statements from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at a conference in Azerbaijan, Wang emphasized the need for a political resolution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting what he termed as a major historical injustice.
Wang stressed the importance of halting actions that could escalate tensions further, reiterating China’s support for a two-state solution. He also highlighted the urgent need for expanded humanitarian access to Gaza to address the region’s deteriorating situation. Wang stated that China is willing to collaborate with the international community to facilitate dialogue and encourage a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
President Herzog noted that the discussions with Wang included topics on bilateral relations and broader regional issues. He underlined Israel’s commitment to peace but also pointed out the country’s security concerns, especially regarding Iran and its allies in the region.
The situation in Gaza remains precarious, despite a ceasefire that began in October 2025. The area continues to face challenges such as Israeli strikes and displacement, while humanitarian issues persist. Progress on the ceasefire agreement has stalled, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violations.
This meeting between Chinese and Israeli officials underscores ongoing international efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, improve conditions in Gaza, and revive diplomatic negotiations aimed at achieving long-term peace in the region.
