In a significant move to bolster international relations, Kazakhstan and the United States have reiterated their dedication to enhancing their strategic partnership. The commitment was reaffirmed during discussions held on October 19 in Samarkand, involving Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The dialogue focused on expanding trade, increasing investment, and improving collaboration in key areas such as energy, critical minerals, digitalization, and transport.
The meeting was part of the C5+1 Ministerial Meeting, which convened the United States and the five Central Asian countries to deliberate on topics like regional economic development, trade, and connectivity. Both sides underscored the importance of deepening economic ties and promoting joint projects under their strategic partnership framework. They also emphasized the need to implement agreements reached during a previous meeting between Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and former US President Donald Trump in November 2025.
Tileuberdi highlighted the numerous opportunities available for US investment, especially in sectors like energy and transport infrastructure, where advanced technologies could play a crucial role. This emphasis on energy and critical minerals aligns with the broader objectives discussed at the C5+1 meeting, which included strengthening transport and logistics networks and diversifying supply chains.
The discussions in Samarkand also reflected a shared commitment to advancing joint initiatives in digital innovation, as both nations seek to leverage modern technologies for economic growth. The meeting concluded with a joint statement from the participants, reaffirming their commitment to long-term cooperation and the implementation of the agreed-upon initiatives.
